Over the past few years, change has been a constant for us all. Between the pandemic, political upheaval and now the cost-of-living crisis, getting any sort of traction has felt like nailing jelly to a wall at times.

Like millions of others across the world, I lost people close to me during Covid, and the sharp shock of how quickly life can change was bought into focus. In 2020 my two stepdaughters joined our household and in 2022 my daughter was born and I came to a realisation.

My career has always been focused on international and UK-wide clients. I have spent many an early morning stood at Gatwick, boarding a plane to who-knows-were, my laptop and overnight bag always ready to grab at a moment’s notice.

Now, this is enormous fun. I really would recommend it to absolutely anybody who has the ability. I bloody LOVE pinging around Europe, meeting people, staying in hotels and exploring (don’t tell anyone, but I even love random room service combinations for dinner).

But, I also love being home to make a proper dinner for my children, and taking the little one to the park as well. These two lives simply aren’t compatible - I find that doing one well simply doesn’t allow the other to flourish.

So, I made the decision to amend my business to a more local format, focusing on working within a local area, with small businesses. Businesses that are also run by parents with responsibilities, who are busy and need simple, effective methods that work quickly. Who don’t want a three-hour board meeting to discuss their five-year targets and what their investors want to see, but want a coffee and a catch up, to chat about what really matters to their customers, and what will have a real impact on their bottom line. That need someone on the other end of the phone who can answer questions, no matter how daft they may seem.

I’m a keen believer that whether you have a billion pound turnover or are a one-man-band, marketing is vital, but it must be built to work for your business. Customers are savvy, and bombarding people with the same old same old just doesn’t cut the mustard any more.

I really hope that providing these services to local businesses will help some organisations in the area I love. After all, we all need a little building up after the past few years, right?

(That being said, if a five star hotel in the Seychelles needs ANY help at all, clearly I am happy to advise… on site, of course )
